APRIL 19, 2009

Today was the last inshore tournament of the 2008-2009 school year. The Teen's were very excited when they arrived at Jaycee Park this morning. We had a mild SSE wind that laid down for a good part of the morning and then kicked back up around 11:30am.

Today was all about the points. After the tournament I will be adding up the points and sending out e-mails to the top 5 high school and the top 5 middle school Teen Anglers and they will be competing for the honor of Teen Angler of the Year on Sunday -- May 3rd.

The Teen's were given their boat assignments and the fish list and off they went. Pierce Holister was fishing with volunteer Bob Wittbold. Pierce came back to the dock with a nice trout. Ariel Vance was fishing with volunteer Bob Bergen. They didn't bring back any fish to weigh. Maxwell Higgins was on volunteer Capt. Charlie Conner's boat. They also had no fish to weigh. Shane Surrency was on the boat with his dad and they did bring back fish. Shane had a nice black drum, redfish and a mangrove snapper. Helen Kinchen was fishing with her dad and she had a black drum, 2 snapper and a spanish mackerel. Branson Troska was fishing with his dad and he had a sheepshead and 2 bluefish. Kalib Guettler and Dylora Kohler went on volunteer Capt. Joe Ward's boat. They caught a few fish but nothing on the fish list but, Dylora did catch her first ladyfish. Lane Burton and Justin Roe were on Lane's dad's boat. They too caught fish but nothing to weigh. Tyler Heiserman and Jake Hyde were fishing on Tyler's dad's boat. Tyler had a nice sheepshead and a snapper. Jake had a snapper. Taylor Meding was fishing on her dad's boat. The only fish she caught that was on the list was a spanish mackerel but, her mom was the first one to catch a fish and her dad and brother both caught short snook. Michael Williams was fishing on his dad's boat and they also caught fish but again nothing on the fish list.

In the High School division
1st place - Pierce Holister - Westwood High - 2 lb. trout
There was no 2nd or 3rd place

In the Middle School division
1st place - Shane Surrency - Lincoln Park Academy - 2lb. 14oz. black drum
2nd place - Helen Kinchen - Stuart Middle - 2lb. black drum
3rd place - Branson Troska - Lincoln Park Academy - 1lb. 14oz. sheepshead

Biggest fish of the tournament trophy went to Shane Surrency for his black drum.

Thanks to all of our volunteers! Hope we see all of you when we start back up in August.
